Autism Awareness Month

At the age of 20 months, my middle son was diagnosed with autism. He is nonverbal and exhibits a lot of the behaviors that are thought of as common. He hand flaps when he is happy, he rocks sometimes(not a lot but some). He has meltdowns that have subsided a lot since he has grown older. However, when he does have a meltdown, they aren't pretty. We really have tried to learn the triggers for meltdowns, but sometimes they just happen. A meltdown is NOT a tantrum. There is no redirecting an autistic child in the middle of a meltdown. We can only try to calm him with things that work for him. Sometimes, a bath will work and sometimes we end up with a flooded bathroom because he decides to throw water everywhere. The meltdowns are the ugly part of autism.

He hates having his picture taken and was pushing me away. :)

The cool part about autism is the unconditional and innocent love he has for his family and others. He knows and loves his teachers, paraprofessionals, and many others that he has come into contact with. Some of my friends could tell you how sweet and loving he is and that he lights up a room when he walks into it. He views the world in a very different way than most of us do. He is learning to communicate with his iPad but he has a really difficult time focusing on it because of his sensory needs and the fact that his senses are always in hyper drive.

I also wanted to share my newest dolly outfit. I run a dolly group on Facebook and we are having a Project Runway Inspired Dolly Challenge this week. Our theme is "What April Means to Me". Naturally, I incorporated Autism Awareness Month into my outfit. I used Cole's Creation's Dolly Raglan and Made for Mermaids Bonny leggings pattern without the leggings..LOL If you're interested in joining our dolly group, search Sewing for Dolly's Closet and request to join. We have a lot of fun!

I found the autism design on Etsy and just loved it!

Dolly Cheer Uniform

If you have been following me for long, you know how much I love sewing for our American Girl dolls and other 18" and 15" dolls. The cheerleader outfits have been wildly popular for me since last Christmas. I love making them and love seeing all the little pixies with their dolls in cheer uniforms made by me! The pattern I am showing today is by Cole's Creations. I am a regular doll clothes tester for her as I love her patterns and especially love the fit. I also really like that most of Cole's doll patterns include a velcro closure in the back for little hands. I also don't like to mess up dolly's hair when dressing her. So, the back closure is high on my list of needs when making doll clothes.
This is the outfit that started this particular design. The top is Cole's Creations Dolly Raglan and the skirt is her Victory Cheer Skirt

Love the purple sparkle knit! My absolute favorite color :)

The gold and black outfit is my newest version. If you don't see your uniform colors, please message me.  I would love to make a custom outfit for your doll!

Brooklyn Dress Pattern by Made for Mermaids

I am always so thrilled to help test patterns by my favorite designers. The Brooklyn dress pattern is so quick and super adorable with optional pockets!! She loves everything princess. So, the princess crowns on this purple fabric by Robert Kaufman were perfect for her. I bought the stripes at a totally different time not knowing what they would become. I couldn't believe how perfectly they coordinated when I put them side by side. I love it when fabrics find each other. :)

We love it when designers make matching patterns for our American Girl Dolls! Made for Mermaids has a ton of matching patterns and always includes both 15" and 18" sizes.

The Brooklyn Dress comes in short sleeve, 3/4 sleeve, and long sleeve. She also offers a max length and sizes 1/2-14. If you would like a custom dress, please email at mypixiegirlsruffles@gmail.com

The Night Before Pajama Pants-Pattern by Cole's Creations

So, I may have gotten a tiny bit carried away with making her pj's. The new Night Before Pajama Pants from Cole's Creations made them easy and quick. There is no side seam so you get to see all those fabulous flannel prints without having to match up the pattern on the side seam. Yay!!
The pattern has a ton of options. You can make plain shorts or pants, cuffed shorts or pants, and finally ruffled shorts or pants. I made almost every option.
How cute are those cuffs??!!! I love the pink leopard spots. As always, Nicole makes sure her patterns are a wide array of sizes including dolly. Girl's Sizes 1/2-16 and both 15" and 18" dolly sizes.
We love to match our American Girl Dolls!

Aaaaagh, what more could a girl ask for!! Hot Pink with Penguins

You can even make boys pjs from this pattern....My boys are getting too big and don't think they need Mama made pjs. So, I did the next best thing and made them for my cute little boy doll. This was his first time in front of the camera...Isn't he the cutest?!

She has so much fun posing for me...The one above is her scared face...LOL She just had a nightmare I guess.

Finally, our favorite, Caroline, in her matching kitty pjs.

New Undies for Our Dollies!!

Oh my goodness! It has been so long since I've updated my blog. Since so many of my fans aren't seeing my Facebook posts anymore, I thought I would try my blog again. I am usually a girl of few words but here goes nothing. I hope you all enjoy!!
I absolutely love sewing for my dolls...errrrr, I mean my daughter's dolls. I so enjoy testing Cole's Creations dolly patterns! She does such a fabulous job with them. These fabulous undies are made from her new Modern Undergarments for Dolly PDF. Since discovering PDF patterns, I rarely use a regular paper pattern anymore. The new Modern Undergarment pattern includes undies, a camisole, a sports bra, and socks. It is super cute and I will be making more.
Don't you just love the polka dots?!!! I decided to make a coordinating pair of undies for this camisole along with a matching pair in the photo further down.
Oh, and all of Cole's dolly patterns are made to fit your Bitty Babies and Bitty Twins as well...I love that! She takes all the guesswork out of sizing for me.
And the socks!!!! I added a cute little elastic lace trim to the top so they look like baby booties.

Finally, the matching polka dot set...love love!!

Ruched Yoga Pants-Pattern by Cole's Creations

Another fabulous pattern by Cole's Creations. These are the Ruched Yoga pants. They come in both girl's and dolly sizes. The pattern also has two waistband options. The polka dot pants have a normal yoga style waistband and if you scroll down, you will see the totally adorable ruched waistband with ribbon ties. We love both of them!!

 Regular Yoga Waistband

She "hearts" them...This is one of her new signature poses.
Isn't the ruching an adorable detail? These pants are so comfy and oh so cute. I also love how quick they come together.

Some of my font choices

I am asked if I have a place to see all my fonts quite regularly. Today, I will be adding just a few since I have ahem A LOT of them.
